The House Of Bernarda Alba

The play centers on the events of a house during a period of mourning, in which an old widow wields total control over her five daughters, aged 39 to 20 years. The housekeeper and the widow’s elderly mother also live there. The youngest daughter is in love with a man who never appears on the stage, but whose existence results in high sexual tension  throughout. The play explores the themes of repression, passion, conformity and the impact of the absence of men, on nubile women.

PRESS

“The play stirred up a lot of empathy for the characters amongst the audience as the scenario enacted could be likened to any rural situation in india…….an emotionally stimulating performance, the play ends with old Hindi love songs, leaving many in the audience misty-eyed….Young actors carried the play like professionals and were given a standing ovation at the India Habitat Centre…”
